Poor Atomization of Caterpillar Injector 0R-0471/0R0471 Causes Black Smoke Emission
A construction company in Sichuan found that the Caterpillar excavators equipped with 0R-0471 (universal number 0R0471) diesel injectors emitted a lot of black smoke during operation, which failed to meet the environmental protection emission standards and was ordered to rectify by the environmental protection department. The company immediately arranged maintenance personnel to carry out fault treatment.
The maintenance technicians tested the injectors and found that the atomization effect of the 0R-0471 injectors was very poor, and the fuel was sprayed in the form of oil droplets instead of a uniform cone, resulting in insufficient combustion and black smoke emission. After disassembling the injectors, it was found that the nozzle holes were worn and the internal pressure regulating spring was aging, which led to the decrease of injection pressure and poor atomization effect. In addition, the long-term use of the injectors without regular maintenance also accelerated the wear of the nozzle holes.
The maintenance team replaced the worn nozzles and aging pressure regulating springs of the 0R-0471 injectors, and carried out atomization testing and adjustment. After maintenance, the atomization effect of the injectors was significantly improved, and the black smoke emission was eliminated, meeting the environmental protection standards. The maintenance personnel suggested that Caterpillar 0R-0471 and 0R0471 injectors should be regularly inspected and maintained, and the worn parts should be replaced in time to ensure good atomization effect.
