Poor Atomization of Caterpillar Injector 0R-3002 Causes Carbon Deposition
A factory in Guangdong found that the Caterpillar generator set equipped with 0R-3002 diesel injectors had serious carbon deposition in the cylinder, which led to reduced engine power and increased fuel consumption. After professional inspection, the root cause of the carbon deposition was the poor atomization of the injectors.
The maintenance technicians tested the 0R-3002 injectors and found that the fuel atomization effect was poor, and the fuel was not fully atomized, leading to insufficient combustion and carbon deposition in the cylinder. The reason for the poor atomization was that the nozzle holes were blocked by carbon deposits and the pressure regulating spring was aging, leading to the decrease of injection pressure. In addition, the generator set had been working in a high-load environment for a long time, which also accelerated the carbon deposition.
The maintenance team cleaned the nozzle holes of the 0R-3002 injectors with ultrasonic cleaning equipment, replaced the aging pressure regulating spring, and carried out atomization testing and adjustment. After maintenance, the atomization effect of the injectors was improved, and the carbon deposition in the cylinder was cleaned. The maintenance personnel reminded that regular cleaning and maintenance of Caterpillar 0R-3002 injectors can avoid poor atomization and carbon deposition, and extend the service life of the engine.
