Overheating of Caterpillar Injector 0R-0471/0R0471 Causes Component Damage
A construction site in Guangdong reported that the 0R-0471 (universal number 0R0471) diesel injectors of a Caterpillar excavator were overheated during operation, and the surface temperature of the injectors exceeded 350℃, leading to damage to the internal solenoid valve and pressure regulating spring. The maintenance team carried out emergency maintenance.
The maintenance technicians analyzed the cause of the overheating and found that the engine cooling system of the excavator was faulty, and the cooling water temperature was too high, which led to the overheating of the injectors. In addition, the injectors had not been cleaned for a long time, and the carbon deposits on the surface affected the heat dissipation, accelerating the overheating. The overheating caused the solenoid valve coil to burn out and the pressure regulating spring to lose elasticity, resulting in the failure of the injectors.
The maintenance team first repaired the engine cooling system, replaced the damaged cooling fan and water pump, and then replaced the burned solenoid valve and pressure regulating spring of the 0R-0471 injectors. After maintenance, the temperature of the injectors returned to the normal range (≤310℃), and the injectors worked normally. The maintenance personnel reminded that the heat dissipation of Caterpillar 0R-0471 and 0R0471 injectors is very important, and the cooling system should be checked regularly to avoid overheating and component damage.
